Northwest Youth Tennis Association (NWYTA) is a non-profit 501 C (3) community tennis association operating in and around Northwest Houston. Our purpose is to organize tennis activities for young tennis player, aged 8 to 18, in an effort to encourage them to pursue tennis as a lifetime sport, to use good sportsmanship and to develop an individual and team competitive spirit.

Your child’s tennis career begins with us! Most young players who go on to earn top state and national rankings, and are offered college scholarships, started playing matches in the USTA’s Junior Team Tennis League. In fact, two of our former players paired up to win the State Championship in mixed doubles for Klein High School last year.  Register for our Fall league in July.

Do your kids want to put what they are learning at their lessons and drills, into practice? NWYTA runs an exciting youth tennis league that has been operating in Northwest Houston, Cypress, Magnolia/Tomball and Spring for 40 years, encouraging even the youngest player to progress beyond basic tennis skills and develop good sportsmanship attitudes as a team member.

And what a bargain! For only $50.00, kids get 6 – 10 weeks of matches, a USTA official match T-shirt, a year’s USTA membership or renewal, the season’s end fun award event and winners' trophies. What other league gives so much at such low cost?

How do we do it? Parents help in running this league as volunteer neighborhood Coordinators, Team Managers, Division Heads and Executive Board Members. High school students, beside playing in the league, can also volunteer to work with a team, and their hours qualify as community service that is essential on college applications. As well, local businesses and tennis pros support our efforts by donating time and goods as awards to benefit our young players.

NWYTA welcomes all kids who already have basic tennis skills. Teams are set in divisions by age and playing ability, so don’t worry if you’re not an ace! Children can join a team in their own neighborhood or at local tennis clubs and play matches against other clubs and neighborhoods. Half of the matches are on ‘home’ courts and half are at an opposing team’s ‘home’ courts. NWYTA can help you establish a team in your own neighborhood or find you a team elsewhere. Winners in the local league may advance to Regional and State Championships. Click on Contacts to see what neighborhoods already participate.”

Registration for the 2009 Fall season will begin in July. Play should start by mid September and run until early November. At our Fall Festival, the season-ending awards event in November, all players enjoy an evening of fun, food and prizes.

To register check back in July, click on Forms and read all the details; then, print off the registration form you need.

If your kids can get 50% of their serves in from the baseline, can rally for a bit and keep score, or if they are more advanced and want to keep their skills up for school or individual tennis competition, this league is for you! Questions? Just email Bob Bell at bbkbjb@yahoo.com.
